Description

Our Coral Shell Deep Water Biodegradable Cremation Urn is designed to provide families with beautiful water burial cremation urn that will float momentarily before sinking and biodegrading naturally. Can be used in the ocean, lake, river or ground. This shell urn is made with all natural materials and individually hand painted, making each cremation urn truly unique. Each shell is hand-crafted from non-toxic, food-grade recycled paper. Each urn comes with a custom carrying case.

Original Artwork by Todd Telander. Telander is an international scientific illustrator and artist who has produced work for numerous zoos and aquariums, wildlife and ocean conservation groups, and is a selected artist of the American Birding Association. His background in environmental studies and biology, coupled with his talent as an illustrator, result in shells that are both scientifically accurate and beautiful.

A portion of the proceeds from each Shell Deep Water Urn sold is donated to the Ocean Conservatory on behalf of the deceased.

A brief video demonstration of the Shell Urn being used:
  • Dimensions: 16" x 16" x 6.25"
  • Capacity: Approx 400 cubic inches (400 cubic inches - ample room for personal notes, mementos or two sets of cremated remains)
  • Single Chamber
  • Individually hand-painted and biodegrades naturally over time.
  • Engineered to float for approximately five minutes before descending gracefully.
  • Fabricated by hand from recycled and earth- friendly materials.
  • Includes custom designed, protective carrying case for convenient and discreet transportation. Easy to load the cremated remains and no assembly required.
  • Includes water-soluble plastic bag for cremated remains.
    • Produced using old world "rough pulping" techniques that transform recycled paper into beautiful biodegradable urns.
    • Exceeds durable container and TSA airline carry-on requirements.
      Save the Oceans:
A portion of the proceeds from each Shell Deep Water Biodegradable Cremation Urn sold will be donated to The Ocean Conservancy (www.oceanconservancy.org) on behalf of the deceased. The family will receive recognition for the donation along with additional information from The Ocean Conservancy.
    • Includes a water-soluble plastic bag (into which the cremated remains MUST be placed) which dissolves on contact with water. This allows the cremated remains to be dispersed quickly and the urn to remain submerged.
    • Before being released into the water, this urn should be sealed with a non-toxic glue.
    • The Shell Urn is designed and engineered to briefly float and gracefully sink. The time each Shell takes to sink will vary depending on the local conditions, weight and volume of the cremated remains, and how the urn is placed in the water. If the Shell is being placed into calm water, it is important that the urn be submerged briefly before being released. This will reduce the length of time taken for the urn to sink.

Scattering ashes at sea. The federal Clean Water Act requires that cremated remains be scattered at least three nautical miles from land. If the scattering urn or container will not easily decompose, you must dispose of it separately. The EPA does not permit scattering at beaches or in wading pools by the sea. You must notify the EPA within 30 days of scattering ashes at sea.

The Clean Water Act also governs scattering in inland waters such as rivers, lakes and ponds. For inland water burial, you may be legally required to obtain a permit from the state agency that manages the waterway.

    Urn Sizing

Follow These Rules To Better Determine The Size Of The Urn You Need

Please Note: When we refer to "healthy" weight, we mean a weight prior to any illness that may have resulted in weight loss, if applicable.

    1. In order to hold all of your loved one's ashes you'll need to know the approximate healthy body weight of the person or pet you are shopping for.

    2. One pound of healthy body weight will yield just less than 1 cubic inch of ash.
Assume for shopping purposes that: 1 pound of healthy body weight = 1 cubic inch ash
      .
Easy example: A cremated 100 pound person (healthy weight) will yield almost 100 cubic inches of ashes. So, if 1 pound = 1 cubic inch, you will need an urn that is approximately 90-100 cubic inches or larger.

    3. There are a lot of other factors that play into how much cremains (ashes) you will actually receive from the crematorium. Cremated remains can vary in amount due to different cremation processes, temperature variations and the bone structure of the decedent. Because of that we can't guarantee 100% of the time that an urn will be large enough but if you follow these rules, or call us to discuss, 99.95% of the time we'll be right on.

    4. Buy an urn at least slightly larger than you need to avoid having the urn be too small for the ashes. Urn capacity can only be too small. You can use any size urn that holds more than you need.

    5. Keepsake Cremation Jewelry is designed to hold a trace amount of ashes, similar to the size of a ball-head sewing pin.
